Show Object labels in Orbit View

    Details

    • Sprint:
      R2013b Milestone 6

      Description

This is a user request from DAQ.

User would find it beneficial to see a spacecraft marker (like a dot) in OrbitView. When you are zoomed far from the Earth, the spacecraft isn't visible, but a dot would show its location.

The only available method now involves messing with the scale factor on the model itself, which the user would need to constantly change as they are zooming in and out.

I always thought it will be nice if it shows the spacecraft name in the plot.
            What do you think?

Yes, definitely some kind of marker and a name. Both pieces should probably be optional. All kinds of SpacePoints should have this kind of marker, not just spacecraft (planets, asteroids, etc.).

For now it only shows space point names on the plot. it will should show up in 2013-09-12 build.
We might want to show the names on option instead of showing all the time.
I also adjusted drawing axes not to become clutter as zooming out.

Added a new boolean field "ShowLabels" to toggle on/off labels.
It will show up in 2013-09-25 build.

Linda: Whenever you're done with this bug, you can assign me this to verify. I still see this issue as "In Progress". Maybe you forgot to update it as Resolved. Thanks.

Update: Using 09/25 build, I have Verified this issue and attached script demonstrates the verification. Now the OrbitView graphics window shows spacecraft(s), planets names on the plot. It looks great! Also "ShowLabels" field was verified as well to test toggle on/off the labels. Within this attached script, one OrbitView window shows ShowLabels ON and 2nd OrbitView window shows OrbitView OFF.

I will document the new ShowLabels field as well as document that now OrbitView window shows space point names on the plot. After documentation, I'll send this ticket to Tetyana to see if we can use this script as GUI test. After documentation and GUI test, I'll Close this ticket.

It appears to me this issue is not completely finished. The intent of the ticket was to show a circular dot where the spacecraft is located if the view zoom is such that the spacecraft model is so small it can bee seen. I will attach an STK screenshot to show the intent.

I propose we make a new ticket for the circular dot and rename this one "Show Object Labels in Orbit View"

Screenshot that shows cicular marker when the 3-D model is so small it cannot be seen in the view. May smaller than a few pixels, draw circle instead.

Steve: I will go ahead and rename this ticket to "Show Object labels in Orbit View" and create a new ticket and attach this STK screenshot with it. Please triage this new ticket after I assign it to Linda.

‘ShowLabels’ field in OrbitView panel works properly. The labels shown in graphics window when “ShowLabels” is turned on, and there is no Labels in graphics window when “ShowLabels” turned off.
            Tested with Build 2013-09-30.
